Hello! I am Diego Casas, youngest son of Manuel “Ezo” Casas.

As a supporter/contributor/friend, you must wonder what I am up to and what your money is going towards. I am here to answer those questions! Currently, I am attending Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana pursuing a bachelors in General and Vocal Music Education and have just begun my fifth semester (junior year) within this program. Some of the classes I am taking are choral methods and choral conducting. These classes advance my knowledge on how to plan choir rehearsals, run a choir program, conduct, and educate choir students at the highest level. Other classes include atonal music theory, music history, and piano which enhance my general music knowledge to allow me to be the best possible musician I can be. I am also currently a member of the BSU Chamber Choir, an advanced level choral ensemble with some of the best singers in our program. Alongside this, I am taking private voice lessons with Prof. Yoko Shimizaki-Kilburn.

Outside of my credited courses, I also do many outside activities. Right now, I am the music director of Note to Self A cappella (NTS) and the Secretary of BSU’s American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). NTS is a Tenor/Bass A capella group that sings a wide variety of music but mostly centers on R&B and pop. I lead all of our rehearsals, teach all of our music, and even arrange. This group focuses on creating a positive and safe space for singers of different backgrounds and skill levels to make music and simply have fun. ACDA is a student organization that focuses on the professional development of future choral directors and providing useful and new information to educators and singers who are eager to learn new things. Within this organization, I help plan these events as well as keep track of membership and communicate information to all members.

My goals with all of these classes and activities is to become the best musician and teacher I can possibly be. Since a young age, I have always loved and cared for music and musical activities, but after joining choir, the trajectory of my life was set. After the completion of my undergraduate degree, I want to teach at the high school level. However, I have set my sights on eventually receiving a Masters in Choral Conducting and a doctorate so that I can one day become the choral director of the collegiate level.
